International Student Community Service Opportunities
The Office of International Services (OIS) provides both international and American students the opportunities to strengthen international ties and learn as a global community. The English Conversation Club, the International Friendship Program, and the Culture Corps are some of the ways OIS fosters such a community.
The Confucius Institute promotes the continued learning of the Chinese language and the Chinese culture. They offer several non-credit courses in Mandarin to accomplish this goal.
The Japan Center was created so that the relationship between North Carolina and the country of Japan could grow stronger and more beneficial. They offer several non-credit courses in the Japanese language, with particular attention paid to writing in Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji.
The Intensive English Program is a non-credit course designed to significantly improve the English skills of non-native speakers. The program even offers supplemental courses in proper pronunciation and in American culture.
The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service (CSLEPS) offers "alternative" spring and winter breaks every year. Instead of a traditional vacation, these trips get students working on community service projects in places like the Dominican Republic.
The Peace Corps is a long respected program that promotes peace and friendship throughout the world. Students are sent to various countries in need and, through their service, create a greater global community.

The NC Japan Center serves as a focal point for interaction between Japan and North Carolina, and is a statewide resource intended to assist all citizens, universities, companies, and public and private institutions in relations with the Japanese.

The Global Training Initative and the Confucius Institute have partnered together to provide a week long summer camp for children interested in Chinese. The camp will offer instrutruction in both the language and the culture, as well as time for students to learn traditional Chinese games, sports, and cooking techniques.
