NC State's "Global Strategic Plan"

With the approval of NC State’s Strategic Plan by the Board of Trustees in April of 2011, we saw strong commitment on the part of University leadership to making NC State a preeminent global institution, engaged throughout the world.  A new and specific strategic plan for the Office of International Affairs has been detailed to support the university’s major goals as outlined in the university strategic plan “The Pathway to the Future” - specifically Goal 5 (Enhancing Global Engagement) and Goal 1 (Enhancing Student Success through educational innovation).

The mission of Office of International Affairs (OIA) is to support the University’s overall goal of being locally responsive to the needs of our community while promoting globally engaged research, education, and economic development programs that address the grand challenges of our global society. OIA will provide leadership and serve as the Center in creation, implementation and coordination of the university’s global engagement priorities, globally focused education, research, and economic development programs to address the grand challenges of society.

The vision of OIA is to provide university-level leadership, innovation and coordination to equip students, faculty, staff and the communities we serve with the global knowledge, cultural understanding, skills and experience to compete and collaborate in the new global economy.

OIA  is to collaborate with other university units and our strategic global partners in the creation, implementation and coordination of  integrative, multidisciplinary and globally focused education, research, and economic development programs to address the grand challenges of our global society.

OIA is to serve as the “University Center for Global Engagement” to support global partnership linkages, promotes international programs, plans and manages global activities, assists with academic planning for global knowledge/experience requirements, and provides logistical support for all international engagement on campus or abroad.

This new OIA “Global Strategic Plan” for NC State in supporting of all University’s major goals as outlined in the new University Strategic Plan “The Pathway to the Future” include five specific  goals for moving NC State toward a globally engaged university in next several years and beyond.

Strategic Goals:

  1. Provide leadership and central support to enhance global engagement at home and abroad
  2. Develop focused strategic partners for enhancing global engagement
  3. Enhance student academic success by integrating global perspectives and internationally engaged learning experiences into programs on campus and abroad;
  4. Promote faculty and staff global scholarship and research;
  5. Increase global extension, engagement and economic development activities
